ABC Bookshelves

Books! We love ‘em. Always have. Always will.

Yes…we know how easy it easy to carry a Kindle in your purse or backpack.
And how great it is to be able to access your email while reading on your iPad.

But we’ll always love feeling the weight of a book. Turning REAL pages.

We. Love. BOOKS!!!!

And now we have one MORE reason to love books…
Italian designers Eva Alessandrini and Roberto Saporiti’s ABC Bookshelves.

Each letter of the alphabet has been turned into a 20″ x 20″ cube that can be placed on the floor
or mounted on the wall to create a literary new way to display your fab collection of books.

Create a bookcase that spells our your name or some saying that honors the bound novels, journals
and manuals you can’t seem to part with. The best part is that the bookshelves look just as great when
they’re filled with books as they do when they’re empty. We know…we’re at a loss for words too!

Call Parade

The city of Sao Paulo, Brazil STILL has telephone booths.
Some of you may or may not remember what those are…

Turns out, most of the city’s phone booths were subject to continual vandalism.

So in an effort to restore their usage and make them visually interesting to the public,
phone carrier Vivo sponsored Call Parade, an ongoing public art project where
100 different artists had complete creative freedom to transform 100 telephone booths.

Here’s just a few of our favorite designs…

The good news is the telephone booths have NOT been vandalized since.

you can also vote for your favorite. But that’s…ahem…your call.

Chinatown Summer Nights

Saturday we loaded the car with Skullastic goods and headed down to Chinatown
for the 4th and final evening of this year’s Chinatown Summer Nights.

What…an…AMAZING…event! Live bands. DJ sets by KCRW DJs. Incredible food.
Great local arts and crafts. And the coolest crowd we’ve experienced in a LONG time!.

Only bad part? WE COULDN’T PARTICIPATE IN THE PUNK ROCK PILLOW FIGHTS!

The weather was PERFECT on Saturday and the Chinese lanterns looked amazing.

We had a great booth location LITERALLY feet from the LA Weekly stage where
great local bands performed. Our favorite was Random Ninjas. Check ‘em out!

There were many special moments on Saturday, but NOTHING was better
than when the 12-man chinese dragon came roaring down our lane, pushing
people out of the way as it weaved and bobbed through the crowd. So amazing!

A big thanks to Linh and her amazing team for organizing a really cool event.
One we’re already putting on our calendar to participate in again next year.
